Meetings

Different people take a different role at each meeting, except Sergeant at Arms and President. The Vice President Education plans the programmes several weeks ahead so that everyone has the opportunity to participate - and has prior notice of their assigned role. A new member would be included on the programme at the earliest opportunity but would not be asked to begin with a major role e.g. Toastmaster.

Your mentor can help you prepare for any of these roles.

Sergeant at Arms
Is a Club Officer, elected at the AGM, who prepares the room for the meeting.

Toastmaster
Ensures the smooth running of the evening.

Timer

Ah Counter
Notes words and sounds used as a 'crutch' or 'pause filler'. They may use a buzzer during the meeting and will report back at the end of the meeting.

Invocation
A brief speech, poem or similar that provides encouragement, motivation, meditation or inspiration. It follows the Toastmasters International recommendations that it, like the rest of the meeting, is not religious, political or sexual.

Wordmaster and Grammarian
Provides a word that can be used during the meeting and extends our vocabulary. As Grammarian they count how many times the word is used, also identify good, and bad, uses of language. They report back at the end of the meeting.

Business session
Usually not more than ten minutes, conducted by the President. The President is a Club Officer, elected at the AGM.

Table Topics
One to two minute impromptu talks organised by the Table Topics Master.

Prepared speeches
Several members present speeches based on projects in their Manual.

Evaluations
Oral evaluations of prepared speeches, Table Topics and the meeting are given by members in a helpful, constructive manner using given evaluation criteria.
